What we believe about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Core Beliefs

When our church was first being started in the late 1890’s, there was a desire to clearly state the core beliefs of the Christian faith. Basically, the leaders of the church were attempting to define what a person would need to believe to be rightfully called a Christian and to be part of the local church in West Kingston.

Over the course of the last one hundred years, our church has moved from its original location, successfully navigated through some passing theological storms, and endured some slight modifications to its Constitution & Bylaws. However, by God’s grace, what has never changed are the essential teachings and beliefs that our founding fathers have passed on to us in what they entitled, “The Articles of Faith.”

The Articles of Faith

Article 1: We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

Article 2: We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons expressed in the Scripture as the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit.

Article 3: We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death on the Cross of Calvary, in his bodily resurrection, in his ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

Article 4: We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a godly life.

Article 5: We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto the resurrection of life and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

Article 6: We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
